Here is a sonnet inspired by Ephesians 2:13-16, where we are reminded that Christ Jesus “has broken down the dividing wall, that is, the hostility, between us.”
Hostility’s End
There is no dividing wall between us - The wall that never could reach to heaven Was broken down by he who came to Earth. In his flesh he made us one forever. Which must scare us - just look at our walls, Created to distinguish them from us, Helping us feel big by making them small, Comforting us by showing who to trust. But there is only one to trust - not them, Not us: just God, who is their God, too, Whose only son died to begin to end The hostility and start something new. We are all with God in this together; There is us and God; no them, no other.
Ephesians 2:13-16
But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace; in his flesh he has made both groups into one and has broken down the dividing wall, that is, the hostility between us. He has abolished the law with its commandments and ordinances, that he might create in himself one new humanity in place of the two, thus making peace, and might reconcile both groups to God in one body through the cross, thus putting to death that hostility through it.
We need to hear this!
