Transfigured Glory

We might wonder about this miracle,
Puzzle over how it makes our world whole.
A waste of glory, to the cynical -
Not feeding, healing, or helping a soul.
But to catch a glimpse of the distant shore?
To see through their eyes God's glory revealed?
A moment to cause our spirits to soar!
Our Savior's grandeur no longer concealed!
 Oh, how wondrous, this transfiguration!
One of us changed to heavenly glory!
Before the cross that leads to salvation,
Behold, the end of our Savior's story!
Flesh and blood, like us, and yet so divine!
May his grace on this world forever shine!

This is a sonnet inspired by the miracle of the Transfiguration of Our Lord, which we celebrate this Sunday.

Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no one on earth could bleach them. And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, who were talking with Jesus.

Mark 9:2-9

    1. It is a neat coincidence that your preaching your way through Mark’s Gospel happens to take you to the Transfiguration the same Sunday as in our church’s calendar! Blessings to you in your proclamation of the good news this week.

  1. Amen! A wonderful meditation. I love how you address the cynics and offer such hope. I can only imagine what it must have been like to stand there and behold our Lord I his holiness! Moves me to joyful tears. We too shall see it..someday! Thanks for sharing.
