As we continue our Lenten journey, here is another poem to ponder, reminding us that “Going through Lent is a listening.” In our denomination, the last Sunday before Lent is always the Transfiguration of Our Lord, when Peter, James, and John hear a voice from the cloud saying: “This is my Son, the Beloved; with him I am well pleased; listen to him!” (Matthew 17:5). A good way to begin our Lenten journey, isn’t it? This reminder to listen to Jesus? Listen to his life, listen to his word, hallow it, and be changed by it. Lent is a time to slow down, to listen, and to hear how we can “so abundantly live again.”
A Listening | Ann Weems
Going through Lent is a listening. When we listen to the word, we hear where we are so blatantly unliving. If we listen to the word, and hallow it into our lives, we hear how we can so abundantly live again.
This poem is found in Ann Weems’ book, Kneeling in Jerusalem, which you can learn more about here.

“…where we are so blatantly unliving.” That’s piercing! And then there is the life: through the Word “we hear how we can so abundantly live again.” Beautiful and life-giving, leading to repentance and renewal. Thanks for sharing!
